Pg. #25-35

In pages 25-35, it becomes clear to us that Red is narrorating mostly about Andy Dufresne's time at Shawshank State Prison. We learned Red liked Andy since the day he met him, and got along with him well. Also, we find out that Red has "connections" in the prison. The means, if an inmate wants something, Red can get it. We find out that Andy is a rockhound, meaning a hobby of his is to collect rocks and then polish and carve them. Andy asked Red for a rockhammer, we assume it's to carve rocks. Red charges his usual 10% from Andy and gives the hammer to him within a week.Another thing we learned in pages 25-35, is that there is a group of men called the "sisters" at Shawshank. The name of the group is quite misleading because 1. The group is all males, and 2. They do not demonstrate the acts of sisterhood at all. The sisters are the rapists at the prison. They will gang rape anybody who looks weak, helpless, and attractive. These men absolutely crave sex of some kind and are in for brutal crimes. The sisters had it in for Andy ever since they laid eyes on him. They would force Andy to do things with them against his will. The laundry room, in which Andy worked, was where it always happened. Every single time they would try and have their way with him, he would fight back and stand up for himself, unfortunately sometimes this only made it worse. But one thing only Andy finally did, was stop Bogs Diamond (the top sister) from raping people. It was greatly implyed that Andy paid some big guys at Shawshank to beat the living crap out of Bogs, and ever since then, he hasn't touched a soul. This part of the novel was indeed informative, but also uncomfortably gruesome. Although it is interesting to read about the rape that went on in Shawshank, and that could also quite possibly be going on in modern prisons in our society, but it was very uncomfortable to be aware in such great detail about the topic.
